How our Green Travel Scheme helps people on Prologis Parks get to work, reduces local traffic and safeguards the environment.

In 2008, working with Liftshare UK, our in-house Property Management Team set up the very first Green Travel Scheme at Prologis Park Kettering. Since then, they have worked hard to introduce Liftshare schemes across our network of Prologis Parks, using the scheme in Northamptonshire as an outstanding example of how car-sharing can reduce local traffic, save employees money and dramatically reduce CO₂ emissions.

A decade later, our Green Travel Scheme with Liftshare UK has grown from one member to an incredible 1642 members, all of whom benefit from the social, financial and environmental benefits that sharing a vehicle brings.

“Sharing the car journey to and from work makes sense for all sorts of reasons,” Mark Hand, Business Development Director at Liftshare UK explains. “For employees it’s an opportunity to reduce costs and make new friends, for local communities it means less traffic on the road and for the environment it represents a dramatic reduction in Co2 emissions.”

“Many of us share cars on a regular basis with our friends and family, without thinking about it.” Mark continues; however, there are often times when a driver has empty seats simply because they don’t know anyone who needs a lift or they might not be aware of the benefits of sharing.”

The Prologis Green Travel Scheme encourages organised car sharing across Prologis Parks by connecting people travelling in the same direction so they can arrange to travel together and share the costs, whilst also reducing congestion and pollution.

Joining the scheme is simple and completely free of charge. Employees simply register their details on the Prologis Green Travel website and then activate their account. Once they’ve registered their journey, they are presented with other journeys matching their. Once they’ve found a suitable match from the results, they can then contact the member(s) using and internal messaging system.

“We know that getting employees to and from work is an important factor for our customers when choosing a location for their logistics building,” Steve Haddock, Director of Regional Property Management for Prologis UK explains. “We also know that increased traffic can be a concern for local residents and that the cost of the journey to and from work is often a consideration for employees. When you add this together with the environmental concerns around car journeys and the fact that around 60% of journeys on UK roads are made by a single driver, introducing a Green Travel Scheme was the obvious solution.”
