Environmental certification

We ensure that all our project management activities and buildings are comprehensively monitored, audited and accredited.

We design and construct each of our buildings to reach a minimum BREEAM (2014) ‘Very Good’ standard and to achieve the best EPC ratings possible within its size category. Similarly, all our project management activities are ISO 14001:2004.

Prologis is a founding member of the UK Green Building Council and of the Institute for Sustainability.

BREEAM(Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method)

Prologis designs and builds all its facilities with the aim of achieving BREEAM (2011) ‘Very Good’ accreditation. BREEAM is the most widely used system for assessing the environmental performance of buildings. It sets standards for best practice and demonstrates a widely recognised level of achievement.

The BREEAM process considers the sustainability of each development across a wide range of issues:

  • Management of the construction process
  • Health and wellbeing of the building’s occupants
  • Energy use
  • Transport
  • Water use
  • Responsible sourcing of materials
  • Waste management
  • Land use, ecology and biodiversity
  • Pollution
  • Innovation

EPC (Energy Performance Certificate)

The European Union’s Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) stipulates that all new buildings must be assessed and awarded a certificate to show their energy performance rating and grade.

The Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) provides ratings from ‘A’ to ‘G’, where ‘A’ indicates the most energy efficient building. In practical terms, the better the EPC rating, the lower the building’s energy bills are likely to be.

Prologis designs all its buildings over 250,000 square feet (23,000 square metres) to achieve an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) ‘A’ rating.

ISO 14001

14001 is a series of international standards on environmental management that provide a framework for the development of an environmental management system and a supporting audit programme.

In line with our commitment to environmental stewardship, Prologis has gained ISO 14001 certification for all our UK project management activities. These broadly fall into the following categories:

  • Assessing the environmental issues associated with land purchased for development
  • Procuring construction contracts for the development of land
  • Monitoring the progress and quality of construction works through to completion
