Prologis completes construction of new Costa Coffee roastery in Basildon

Press Release

Prologis, the UK leader in logistics and industrial property, has completed construction work on the 86,000 square foot roastery it has built for Costa Coffee at Prologis Park Basildon on Christopher Martin Road. Costa is now carrying out an extensive building fit-out in preparation for the roastery’s official launch in 2017.

Clive Bentley, Property & Commercial Director for Costa, commented: “It’s exciting that we have reached this important construction milestone. There is still a lot to be done on site before we can start producing the same great tasting coffee at our new ‘Paradise Street’ roastery, but we are taking great pride in building the very best facility in the world to meet increasing customer demand and to support our long-term growth.”

The construction of the new roastery facility, which will have the potential to roast up to 45,000 tonnes of coffee beans every year when it becomes fully operational, has been a technically complex project.

Maurice Dalton, Senior Vice President, Prologis UK said “We are delighted that we have been able to deliver a facility that will help Costa meet growing customer demand.”

The roastery is the first phase of Prologis Park Basildon, which is regenerating the former Visteon manufacturing site. Construction work is now underway on two further units; a 57,500 square foot facility that has been let to an expanding local company and a 74,000 square foot distribution centre that Prologis is building speculatively. Construction work on both units will be complete by Christmas 2016.

Glennys and CBRE are acting for Prologis.

Prologis owns and manages approximately 23 million square feet of logistics and distribution space in the UK as of June 30, 2016.
