Councillor Mary Markham, Leader of Northampton Borough Council visited Prologis Park Pineham, to celebrate the start of construction at the 150,000 square foot extension of BMW Group UK’s 457,500 square foot regional parts distribution centre.  The expansion of BMW Group’s operations at Pineham is expected to create a further 70 jobs for Northampton over the next 10 years, bringing the total number of jobs at the facility to around 270.

BMW Group’s industry-leading logistics operation at Prologis Park Pineham distributes parts to BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad retailers throughout the UK and Ireland and globally for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.  The distribution centre, which has seen steady growth since it opened for business in 2012, is also home to BMW Group’s growing e-commerce parts and accessory business.

“We are delighted that Prologis could provide a site next to our existing building that would accommodate our expansion,” said Richard Price, Aftersales Director at BMW Group UK.  “This new facility has been designed to meet our growth aspirations and we have been working closely with Prologis through every stage of the development.”

Councillor Markham said: “Distribution is an important part of Northampton’s economy and we are pleased that both BMW Group and Prologis are continuing to invest in the town, bringing employment and training opportunities for local people.”

The extension to the BMW Group distribution centre is being built to the same high standards of sustainability as those achieved for the existing facility and the building will reach completion by early 2017.

“We are very glad that we were able to offer BMW Group this opportunity and the new building is progressing well,” said James Wright, Vice President at Prologis.  “Prologis Park Pineham has attracted a wide range of distribution operators and with the BMW Group extension, the first phase of the park will be complete.  We look forward to starting the second phase later this year.”

Prologis owns and manages approximately 23 million square feet of logistics and distribution space in the UK as of June 30, 2016.
